Biography
The early years
Childhood
Sherrilyn Kenyon was born in Columbus, Georgia, while his father was stationed at Ft. Benning, GA. Kenyon father abandoned the family when she was eight years (he returned to the family of his senior year of high school), leaving Kenyon his mother to raise his younger brother and older sister, Trish, who has severe cerebral palsy, alone. Kenyon's brother was sent to live with his grandparents in Atlanta, Georgia, while Kenyon was in Columbus to help care for her sister. After 18 months of separation, the family was reunited when Kenyon and his mother and sister moved to Atlanta as well. Kenyon first recognition of his writing came when he won a contest in third grade by writing an essay about his single mother's Day Mother and was followed a year later when he won the DAR to a historical account he wrote about a girl living in colonial Virginia.
Kenyon was raised in the middle of eight children, but only two of them were really brothers. The other six were his cousins, who, due to the crisis of the family, lived with his family outside of control over most of his early life and adulthood. She also has two older sisters.
Kenyon knew as a child I wanted to be a writer, as it provided an escape from an abusive childhood. She is a strong advocate against child abuse and participates in fundraisers to help other victims. In the kindergarten, she wrote in her Brownie manual I wanted to be a writer and a mother when she grew up. Yet neither was never easy for her. At age seven years wrote and illustrated his first novel, The Secret of Sharron, a horror story about a girl who uses her psychic powers to kill their brothers and takes possession of their school. At fourteen Kenyon made his first professional sale, and continued to write for school newspapers, yearbooks, local newspapers and magazines in high school and college. She gained her love of horror movies and zombies and paranormal novels her mother, who never censored movies the girl was allowed to see. His mother even took him to see Night of the Living Dead in a drive when she was only four years old.
Years University
Kenyon originally intended to study art in college so he could become a comic book revealing. She was accepted into the Savannah College of Art and Design, but was unable to pay tuition to attend. He entered a state university instead of graduating in English, hoping to be admitted to the Creative Writing program. His first semester at the university, which was placed on a leveling course of English due to his dyslexia, which resulted in a low score in the test. Kenyon graduated with an interdisciplinary major that combines medieval history and language with classical studies. She had enough credits to win also minors in philosophy, psychology, and French, and gain a Certificate of Medieval Studies.
When Kenyon was 20, decided it was time to make your experience writing for magazines and make use of it in the book market.
