Can anyone help me with this problem of vectors in 3D?
This is part of my h / w, but I've spent hours trying to understand this question is but I do not understand … Plane An equation has to be (2i-2j + k) = 12 B Plano has the equation r (-2i 2 jk) = 15 (point is not multiplication, is dot product) (a) Show that Plane A Plane and B are parallel. I'm not sure if this is correct (my math book has no answers to test questions) but I think the vector (-2 +-2j-k) is a scalar multiple of (2i-2j + k) to thus define the same line. This particular line is perpendicular to both planes, therefore, PA and PB are parallel? Am I correct in this? (B) Find the distance of the planes are separated. This is really I have no idea. To be honest, I really not get the set rn = c (ie, rn = a) of the vectors in 3D, but I understand them better in 2D. All I know is that the book says the answer is 9 units (planes are 9 units difference), but I have no idea why. I would really appreciate if someone can explain how to do this. Thanks for your time!
Yes, see example 5 http://www.math.uh.edu/ ~ sonia/MATH2331_Spring10/Planes.pdf http://www.math.psu.edu/zhao/Sec1305.pdf See Section 3
