Sherrilyn Kenyon

Biography
The early years
Childhood
Sherrilyn Kenyon was born in Columbus, Georgia, while his father was stationed Fort. Benning, Georgia. Kenyon father abandoned the family when she was eight years (he returned to the family of his senior year of high school), leaving his Kenyon mother raise his younger brother and older sister, Trish, who has severe cerebral palsy, alone. Kenyon's brother was sent to live with his grandparents in Atlanta, Georgia, while Kenyon stay in Columbus to help care for her sister. After 18 months of separation, the family was reunited when Kenyon and his mother and sister moved to Atlanta also. Kenyon first recognition for his writing came when he won a contest in third grade, writing an essay about a single mother on the occasion of the Day Mother and was followed a year later when she won a prize for a historical account DAR who wrote about a girl living in colonial Virginia.
Kenyon He grew up in the middle of eight children, but only two of them were actually brothers. The other six were his cousins, who, due to the crisis of the family, lived with his family out of most of his early life and young adulthood. She also has two older sisters.
Kenyon child already knew he wanted to be a writer since it provided an escape from an abusive childhood. She is a lawyer from child abuse and participates in fundraisers to help other victims. In kindergarten, wrote in his manual Brownie wanted to be a writer and a mother as she grew. Yet none of these ever came easy for her. At the age of seven years wrote and illustrated his first novel, The Secret Sharron, a horror story about a girl who uses her psychic powers to kill their brothers and acquisition of their school. At fourteen, Kenyon made his first professional sale, and continued writing for student newspapers, yearbooks, local newspapers and school magazines and the university. She won her love of horror, zombie movies and the paranormal and the novels of his mother, who never censored films of the young was allowed to see. His mother even took her to see The Night of the Living Dead in a drive when he was four years old.
College years
Originally Kenyon intended to major in art at school so he could become a comic book revealing. She was accepted to the Savannah College of Art and Design, but was unable to pay Registration fee to attend. She was admitted to a state school where he graduated in English, hoping to be admitted to the Creative Writing Program. His first semester of college, she was placed in an English course of recovery due to his dyslexia, which resulted in low scores on the test. The first day class, his teacher realized the mistake and had put in an advanced English class the teacher teaches. Kenyon spent two years as an English as editor of school paper. Applied three times for admission to creative writing program, but was never admitted. After his third attempt, the teacher asked him not to apply again the program was designed for students who had a serious future in publishing. Discouraged, Kenyon tried to change their specialization in journalism, but could not be admitted there because they could not pass the typing test required of all students. Kenyon's right hand is partially paralyzed, which makes its kind on a typewriter. With the doors closed to her, Kenyon changed the history of baseball. Kenyon graduated with an interdisciplinary major combining medieval history and language with classical studies. She had enough credits to earn also minors in philosophy, psychology, and French and earn a Certificate of Medieval Studies.
When Kenyon was 20, she decided it was time to take his experience writing for magazines and parlay that in the book market. Just as he finished his manuscript and prepared to send to publishers, his older brother, who was a staunch defender of his work dead and a devastated Kenyon lost the desire to write. That same brother had borrowed a typewriter from his roommate during the Christmas holidays at school so I could type up his manuscript for presentation. His last words to her about her writings: "I know that one is a winner, baby. I can not wait to see it in print." That manuscript later become his novel, born of the night.
In re-writing
Three years later, Kenyon moved to Richmond, Virginia to marry her boyfriend long. While moving her things, her husband came through his novels and ancient writings, and asked why not write more. Kenyon told his desire to write had died with his brother and packed his manuscripts away. Due to the recession, Kenyon was unable to find a job of any kind. A childhood friend mentioned that she was editing the magazine take several articles written and offered to Kenyon. Although Kenyon had not written a word fiction since the death of his brother, Kenyon agreed to write the articles. As soon as work began once again began to feel that writing was something that had to do. Although there was little money, as soon as her husband learned that she was writing again immediately bought a Brother word processor. He put in a corner of her apartment in a card table and a chair of dollars Steno ten.
Kenyon Two years later he sold his first book, arises night, with five more in short sales. He won several awards and made several bestseller lists, but after the publication of his sixth novel found himself unable to get another contract in writing. For a total of four and a half years (1994 – 1998), Kenyon could not sell any of his manuscripts.
The difficulties
While his career plummeted, Kenyon was in the midst of much confusion in his personal life. His father died of cancer in February 1995. A difficult pregnancy cost their work. The baby was seven weeks before and was forced to spend six weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit and Kenyon barely survived this release. Because her husband was finishing school, and his inability to work and high medical bills, the "family lost everything [we] had was not very much." As result, the couple and their severely ill son were forced to leave his car in the parking lot of a hotel in Columbus, MS until they were finally able to find accommodation in an apartment in the reduction. Later that same year, her mother was diagnosed with cancer, and Kenyon became pregnant again. The second pregnancy resulted in serious medical problems as well, causing Kenyon to be hospitalized for most of the time. With her mother could not visit because of your condition, your child restricted visit, and her husband spend most of their time taking care of his son and his medical problems, Kenyon turned back to his fiction that he wrote the two books definitely going to relaunch her career.
Once your second baby was born and she was able to work again, Kenyon had a minimum wage teaching teams. From where he worked as a web designer, continues to write in every spare moment. His agent, who had stayed with her through all the years had not been selling, still has her job but was rejected each presentation.
Race
Fiction
In 1997, he received the rejection Kenyon claims with the relaunch of his career and forever changing the course of his writing style. At that time, the best novels published in the market were historical novels set Regency. From the criticism of their members at the time were well known authors in the field, Kenyon sat down and wrote a novel. His agent and loved the critical partners without But was the manuscript that was its rejection of the worst of his career. "Nobody in this publishing house will never be interested in this author. Do not send your work to us other again. "Kenyon was devastated again. Since they were still living in poverty, Kenyon promised her husband she never spent a penny on pursuing a dream that obviously was not intended.
But I could not stop writing. That rejection prompted to stop paying attention to what was sold to New York. It spent the next few months to write books for themselves while listening to the characters and market reports. When he finished, he sent his latest Kenyon his agent did not like the manuscript at all and refused to better represent it. Believing that his career was over and no money left to continue on their own Kenyon working together to one side.
A few weeks later, Kenyon saw an ad in a magazine written for HarperCollins Laura Cifelli was looking for manuscripts. From Cifelli had Kenyon was the top agent in his career, Kenyon sent a letter to his single query. Cifelli Kenyon offered two books. The first Dark-Hunter series and the one her agent had left. Cifelli dropped the idea of the paranormal because there was no market for story lines. But she asked to see the history. Kenyon borrowed money from a neighbor to send the manuscript to New York and offers Cifelli Kenyon a three books. . Since the landmark was very different from the paranormals and science fiction novels of his career Music, Cifelli Kenyon asked if he would mind using a pseudonym. Kenyon now was superstitious about his real name as their initial foray had been so short life, he chose Kinley MacGregor (the irony here is that although the MacGregor name appeared on every bestseller lists early, which would, under the Kenyon name would win the most praise.) MacGregor Part honors Kenyon Scottish descent and his family, there for a while, it was forbidden to use their names real cause of his conflict with a rival clan. The name seemed more appropriate for your child to use to rebuild his career.
Although Kenyon presented his manuscripts Kinley MacGregor, she continued to work on their stories about vampires. At her editor, hired a new agent at the end of 1998. Although it had not represented paranormal before and was reluctant to do so because there was no market for that style of the novel, Kenyon convinced her to submit them. Dark-Hunter novels were rejected all the houses. Some even more than once. But by that summer, the officer found a home for them at St. Martin's Press, Jennifer Enderlin when purchased. It was almost ten years to this day from the time Kenyon had made the first Dark-Hunter novel the day one was hired.
Kenyon is best known for the Dark-Hunter series, which make up the Dark-Hunters, Were-Hunters and Dream-Hunters stories. Books deviate from traditional vampire stories in which vampires, called daemons, only live twenty-seven years due to a curse of the god Apollo, who appears frequently in the series. To extend its life, the Daimon vampires are forced to take the souls human to live. sister of Apollo, the goddess Artemis, created an army of immortal warriors, called Dark-Hunters to kill the daemons and free the human soul before souls die. Some of the original heroes Dark-Hunter were taken from Kenyon wrote fairy tales in middle school and high school.
A mid 1980, while working for a small science fiction magazine called The Cutting Edge, his boss asked him to write a series of long duration for the magazine. It brought many of their favorite characters from his previous fantasies over a series. This was the beginning of the Dark-Hunter world. In this series, which has now been percolating for more than twenty years, Kenyon has created an entire universe, the rules of which remain only in your head.
Non-fiction
In addition to his successful career fiction Kenyon has also written several nonfiction books. She wrote the character-naming of Reference, which was finally bought and published by Writer's Digest. Writer's Digest was interested in launching a new series of books, and, because of a history of Kenyon in the study the Middle Ages, was asked to write in everyday life Middle Ages. When the line was looking for a writer to writer's complete fantasy reference, again returned to Kenyon.
Character name origins Paper has its roots in the infancy of Kenyon. When Kenyon began writing their own stories as a young child, she began keeping a list of names liked it for future use. As she aged, continued developing the list, finally the source organization, so if you were writing a French character could easily find a French name. When co-author Cathy Maxwell saw the list, she insisted that Kenyon should request the publication, as other writers would find it very valuable.
Graphic Novels
Because of his lifelong love of comic books, graphic novels and manga (Kenyon credited their ability to read his older brother who used Spiderman comics to teach it), May 2006, Dabel Brothers Production ("DB Pro"), then in association with Marvel Comics, has announced the signing of an exclusive contract with Kinley MacGregor (aka Sherrilyn Kenyon), to adapt the novels in his series of Arthurian fantasy, Lords of Avalon.
Lords of Avalon was intended to stand as a summer monthly comic from 2007, with a screenplay adapted by Roynne Gillespie (Man in flames) and works of art by Tommy Ohtsuka. A graphic novel edition of the Sword of Darkness, the first novel in the series, was originally supposed to have been available in summer 2007 but was delayed as Dabel Brothers and Marvel Comics ended their association. Lords of Avalon: Sword of Darkness was finally published by Marvel Comics, Dabel Brothers instead, cover dated November 2008.
While Kenyon was in discussions contract with St. Martin's Press have a manga adaptation of Dark-Hunter as far back as 2003, it was until 2006 when St. Martin brought Dabel Brothers Productions ("DB Pro") to be the wrapper of the books were able to follow forward. Because Kenyon is recognized as an otaku (in the American sense of the term), it would be several months before an artist was found that Kenyon agreed. Claudia Campos who is known for his work with Tokyopop was elected. The first piece manga Dark-Hunter appeared in the Compendium of nonfiction Kenyon, The Dark-Hunter partner in November 2007. It would take another year before Kenyon approved a writer adapting his words, Joshua Hale Fialkov of Afro-Samurai, Elk Run, Cyblade, Vampirella Alibi and fame. The Dark-Hunter manga, will finally make its debut in May 2009.
E-Books
As a result of his love for technology, Kenyon was one of the first electronic books published by the now defunct unlimited dreams. She was the first in New York published author contract in this emerging medium.
Family Life
Kenyon is severely dyslexic. It is also ambidextrous. Kenyon can write a first draft of a novel in three or four weeks but has been known to completely finish one novel in less than four weeks. The usual time for a novel, however, is four to nine months. In his spare time, Kenyon plays guitar, flute, piano and drums. As a child and a young woman, she was a training partner of two Golden Gloves boxer. He was also a football quarterback and an award-winning chef. A former member Society for Creative Anachronism, is currently a member of the Horror Writers of America, the Science Fiction Writers of America and Writers Association Romance.
Kenyon says jokingly that she only owns three pieces of clothing that are not black (a white shirt Fairy Ren and two pairs of jeans) and fans have noticed your obsession with this election cabinet. She has described her personal style as what happens when you get older Gothic and says his obsession with the use of all step black when his mother refused to buy a black velvet dress when I was in first grade.
Over the years and because of what she humorously calls "need their children to eat, "Kenyon has worked a variety of jobs: DJ, the photographer (his credits include the publication of the Washington Post), store clerk, cook, baker, dollmaker, painter, cameraman, freelance journalist, concierge, waitress, teacher, ditch digger, mental, web designer, programmer, and bookseller.
Kenyon is married and has three children. The family lives on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee, with a collection of pets, including dogs, cats, fish, chickens, rabbits and reptiles ..
